7 Unique Things To Do in Brisbane

If you’re eyeing Brisbane as your upcoming study spot in Australia or you’re mapping out an Australian adventure and curious about what Brisbane has to offer, look no further!

Known as Australia’s river city, Brisbane enjoys hot summers, mild winters, and a vibrant cafe culture, catering to a diverse range of activities suitable for all ages.

Having called Brisbane home for three years as an international student, I can confidently attest that Brisbane’s charm remains as captivating as ever.

Whether you’re a visitor, resident, student, or professional, join me as I show you my top must-do experiences in Brisbane.

Go on a riverside stroll

One of the most inspiring activities in Brisbane is taking a leisurely walk along the river, whether towards Kangaroo Point, alongside the iconic Story Bridge, or from Brisbane Riverside to New Farm.

If you opt for this picturesque route, don’t forget your camera; the views are simply breathtaking.

For the ultimate experience, I suggest early mornings on weekdays or catch the sunset, allowing you to soak in the stunning views at their finest.

Order a coffee

It’s no secret that Australians have a deep love for their coffee, which is why you’ll discover fantastic cafes tucked away in every nook and cranny of the city.

The great atmosphere combined with the distinct smell of the coffee beans is a nice way to clear your mind and energise your body.

For the best coffee (in my opinion), my top picks include Paddington, the CBD (Central Business District), and West End, where you’ll find lots of cool cafe waiting to be explored.

Go for brunch

Brunch holds a cherished place in Australian dining culture, blending the best of breakfast and lunch into one delightful meal.

Whether you’re in the heart of Brisbane or its surrounding suburbs, you’ll find an array of cafes offering delectable brunch options to satisfy your hunger.

Discover Brisbane’s Laneways

It’s not just Melbourne that boasts trendy late-night bars and cosy coffee spots tucked away in charming laneways.

Experience Brisbane’s hip and vibrant side by exploring gems like Burnett Lane, Eagle Lane, Gresham Lane, and Albert Lane in Brisbane CBD, or venture to Fish Lane in South Brisbane, or the lively laneways of Winn Lane, M&A Lane, and Bakery Lane in Fortitude Valley.

Explore the cultural and art scene of Brisbane

If you’re up for some cultural exploration and fun, head over to South Bank’s Cultural Precinct. Here, you can check out cool spots like the Queensland Art Gallery, Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA), State Library of Queensland, Queensland Museum, and Queensland Preforming Arts Centre. They always have something exciting going on, so you won’t be bored!

And if you want to dig even deeper into Brisbane’s artsy side, keep an eye out for local artists’ events on social media. They often host unique exhibitions and activities that showcase Brisbane’s creative vibe in a more personal way.

Meet a koala

One of my earliest stops upon arriving in Brisbane was the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, and it quickly became a favourite of mine. What makes it so special? Well, apart from its picturesque setting, the sanctuary’s dedication to animal welfare is truly commendable.

Here’s a fun fact: Queensland is the only state where you can cuddle a koala, adding an extra layer of excitement to your visit. For animal enthusiasts, the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is an absolute paradise, with its adorable residents sure to steal your heart.

Explore Brisbane Botanical Gardens at Mt. Coot-tha

While Mt. Coot-tha offers breathtaking views, its charm doesn’t end there!

Nestled around the mountain’s base are captivating botanical gardens waiting to be explored, promising hours of enchantment.

Complete with an onsite cade, the Brisbane Planetarium, and a scenic lookout offering panoramic views of the Brisbane CBD, this locale offers a delightful blend of natural beauty and modern amenities for a truly memorable experience.
