Kim Casuyon’s Journey: Switching from Accounting to Kitchen Management in Australia

Kim Casuyon is currently studying Kitchen Management at our partner college. She came to us with a dream of studying in Australia, and she recently completed her placement at a fine-dining restaurant in Brisbane.

Kim had a great experience during her placement. She said, “The placement was really fun and amazing. I learned a lot of new things and processes. The best part was using what I learned in my practical classes right in the kitchen.”

Originally from an Accounting background, Kim decided to switch to Kitchen Management. Here’s what she had to say about her studies in Australia:

I started with almost no knowledge about Kitchen Management, but the classes were very engaging. The trainer covered all the important industry standards, even the small details like washing our hands before cooking and getting our work clothes ready before class. These little things made a big difference during my placement and in my current job.

“Finding a placement on my own was a bit scary because I was already juggling jobs and studying. But fortunately, the college and the trainer helped me find a placement and supported me all the way. If I had any questions, I could always reach out to them.”

“The practical classes really prepared me with the skills and habits I needed for the real workplace.”

Kim has some advice for students interested in studying Hospitality in Australia:

Be open to new experiences and learn as much as you can. Work hard, but also make sure to take time for yourself. Studying abroad is challenging, and being away from your family can be tough, so give yourself a break.
— Kim

“Most importantly, if you want to study Kitchen Management, focus on your attention to detail. Even small things can make a big difference in your job or career.”

Kim, who was looking for a change from her office job, decided to start fresh in Brisbane and study Kitchen Management. She said, “I’m really thankful to EDUFIRST for helping me make my dream come true. They were great at communicating and helped with all the paperwork. I’m so glad I chose them to support me.”
